INVISIBLE PRESSURE: WHEN CONVENIENCE FAILS TO CARE
Qingyu Jin
Inspired by The Care Manifesto, this project reflects on the unequal distribution of care in public spaces. "Invisible Pressure" explores the subtle violence ingrained in public Spaces - where structures of convenience and control serve the many while quietly excluding the few. Through two videos, the project reveals how hostile design shapes marginalised individuals' psychological and emotional responses. One video shows a stream-of-consciousness perspective of a marginalized individual navigating discomfort in a public space, while another simulates how spatial forms subtly shape emotional responses. The gradual transformation of the cold, rigid structure into an open, fluid form reflects the transition from pressure to care. This project challenges viewers to recognize the social dynamics embedded in public spaces and reflect on the need for a more inclusive and caring environment, to imagine a future where care extends to all.
