The Flower You've Been Waiting For
Amrutha
This installation explores the layers of advertising and the tension between ornamental perfection and the rawness of reality. Through a series of layers, the ornamental packaging of a ceramic flower is revealed, progressively exposing the imperfect, cracked final piece beneath. By using advertising trope of visuals, language, and presentation, this flower reflects on the ways branding creates a desire for unattainable perfection. The ceramic flower, adorned with layers of embellishment, ultimately exposes the underlying truth: an imperfect object, far from the idealized image we've been sold. Inspired by the text, Is branding merely a compensation for a terminally boring culture? This piece invites viewers to confront the illusions of luxury and the nature of expectation through building anticipation and showing the reality. It challenges us to question what lies beneath the surface of what we're told is desirable.
